Description
Death of an Expert Witness by P.D. James is a classic British detective mystery and the sixth outing for Inspector Adam Dalgliesh. When a brilliant but widely disliked forensic scientist is found murdered inside his own laboratory, Scotland Yard sends Dalgliesh — a detective with a poet’s temperament — into a closed world of clinical precision and simmering resentments. Everyone who worked alongside the victim had reason to wish him gone, and each carries secrets the investigation slowly exposes. James turns the sterile setting of a forensic lab into a hothouse of jealousy, ambition, and buried grievance, building toward a resolution that stays hidden until the final pages. The novel later inspired the television series Dalgliesh, starring Bertie Carvel.
