Description
Happier Here With You by Amy Gail Hansen is a tender work of contemporary family-life fiction about the quiet ways a household can be knit back together. Maggie Brodbeck is a widowed museum curator and food historian, so busy raising her five-year-old daughter, Hannah, on hurried, on-the-go meals that she has forgotten how to slow down and simply live. An unexpected invitation from her estranged great-aunt Alice draws her to Rosehill Farm in rural Wisconsin, where the unhurried rhythms of country living, a box of generations-old recipes, and a warm-hearted local pastry chef named Brady begin to reawaken the parts of herself she thought were lost. Published by Lake Union Publishing and running a brisk 297 pages, the novel moves gracefully between past and present as Maggie uncovers the surprising, heroic threads of her own family history.
